Big Mac Pizza (vegan, gluten free)

Big Mac Pizza (vegan, gluten free)

We are so excited to share our Big Mac pizza recipe! After longing over all the versions we couldn’t eat, we took it upon ourselves to make this happen. We feel we hit it out of the park on our first attempt! Follow along and we’ll show you how to make this magic happen.

The ingredients list MIGHT look a little intimidating at first, but most of the items listed are pretty common to have laying around. We did have to visit a health food store to get our textured vegetable protein (TVP) and GF pizza dough mix, both made by Bobs Red Mill. We’re confident you will make this with ease, most of the work is in the prep!

The real key to this recipe is the pickle and Big Mac sauce flavours. Those two definitely give the pizza that “Big Mac Taste” . Which would translate well into tons of creative vegan Mcd’s dishes (we’re thinking Big Mac Fries?!)

Instructions
"Meat"
  1. In a sauce pan mix together vinegar, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, broth and dry ingredients excluding the vegetable protein.
  2. Bring mixture to a boil and pour over textured vegetable protein. Cover and let sit for 10 minutes.
Sauce
  1. Mix all the ingredients together and set in the fridge until needed
Flax Egg/ Dough
  1. Combine 2 tbsp ground flax and 6 tbsp water mix well and place in fridge for 10 minutes
  2. Use the Flax Egg as an egg substitute in the gluten free crust
  3. On a sheet of parchment paper, roll our dough in a large rectangle
  4. The key to this crust is to roll it extremely thin, with GF crusts, the thicker you make it, the chewer it will seem
  5. Fold over the corners to make a crust we make our pizza in a large rectangle shape, we find it the easiest to handle and cut!
  6. Cook for 7 minutes at 450 degrees
Toppings
  1. Dice the onion and pickles extremely fine
  2. shred lettuce thin and with mostly soft green pieces or buy a shredded bag of iceberg lettuce if you're super pressed for time
Assembly
  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees
  2. Use half of your sauce and cover the pizza
  3. Cover in "meat", pickles, onions and shredded cheese
  4. Cook the pizza for 15- 20 minutes keeping an eye on the edges
  5. Remove from oven and add lettuce and remaining mac sauce Cook for an additional 2 minutes
  6. Remove and cut into smaller rectangles Enjoy 🙂

Tips

  • Dice the pickles and onions really fine, you’ll get more of a pickle taste throughout instead of a overpowering dill flavor
  • mix the onions and pickles and leave them in the fridge for an hour before hand to have them keep the texture and take on each others flavor a little bit
  • save about half of your sauce for the topping, (you’ll want more than you think)
  • keep the lettuce shreds fairly thin and green so they go soft instead of crunchy
